Serious about environmental education

Karl and Lesley Lane from Nelspruit-based interpretation specialists Hamilton-Fynch recently presented a workshop for the guides at the #GraskopGorgeLiftCo, to familiarise them with the worksheets the company has developed to enrich the experience of learners from visiting schools.

Both the Lanes have long career backgrounds in conservation, environmental education and sustainable development communications. The interpretation media dotted along the 600-metre circular trail at the bottom of the gorge – in the beautiful Afromontane forest – was developed by Hamilton-Fynch.

Their worksheets will be complemented by a number of new installations that will soon be added to the forest trail.

As well as offering a spectacular tourism experience, the Graskop Gorge Lift Co plays an important educational role by highlighting the significance of South Africa’s indigenous forest biome that covers just 0.56% of South Africa but is home to about 5% of plant species.
